Responsible for the design, development, and technical analysis of moderate scope and complexity, either independently or as part of a project team. Generate, evaluate, analyze, and develop design concepts for systems, components and assemblies to achieve new product requirements and current product improvements. Responsibilities could include technical leadership of cross-functional teams; leading design reviews and supplier reviews; developing technical documentation; product change management; process development/enhancement. Ensures the correct processes, tooling and equipment are available to manufacture related parts in-house or at a specified supplier in a safe, quality and cost effective manner.

Duties and responsibilities

  • May possess and demonstrate advanced knowledge in a specialized field and broad knowledge of several related disciplines within a function.

  • May provide day-to-day direction and oversight for other employees.

  • Demonstrated understanding of cross functional processes such as Engineering Change Control.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in work practices, standards, processes.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentations skills.

  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and work within a team environment.

  • Ability to relate to others, demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility, active participation in decision making process.

  • Ability to solve problems and lead others in resolving problems.

  • Contribute to multiple projects, involving single components or subsystems.

  • Provide technical leadership on cross-functional teams.

  • First point of contact within engineering with external customer. Lead customer presentations.

  • Guidance provided by manager. Some projects assigned by manager, some sought out by employee.

  • Proactive in generating reports and preparing seminars.

  • Can quickly assess a problem and identify the key technical issues. Bases decisions on fundamental engineering principles and has a firm understanding of how the principles apply to the problem. Has an understanding of the assumptions involved and accounts for the added risks.

  • Demonstrated experience executing electro-mechanical subsystem design under limited supervision in support of larger projects.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills. Proven experience developing 3D models. Experience with Pro-E/Creo is a plus.

  • Proficiency with engineering tools including FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis & DFM/DFA.

  • Demonstrated experience executing engineering change notices. Understanding of product lifecycle management tools and procedures. Experience with Windchill PLM a plus. Relevant Experience

  • Experience with door hardware and access control products a plus.

  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as die casting, investment casting, powdered metal, stampings, injection molded plastics, machining, LPM, and rapid prototyping.

  • Experience designing electro-mechanical systems utilizing BLE / Wifi a plus.

  • Experience with optics and magnetics a plus.

  • Experience with miniature/micro electronic actuation a plus.

  • Experience executing VA/VE activities. Qualifications

  • An engineering bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, engineering science, or equivalent from an ABET accredited university.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
