The VP, Americas Engineering will provide thought leadership, influence and hands-on engagement in order to develop, direct, and implement the innovation agenda for Allegion, with direct responsibility for the engineering teams supporting the Americas regional business. This role will report to the Allegion Vice President of Global Engineering and Technology and will be a member of the Allegion Engineering and Technology Leadership Team.
This role will oversee the product, system and solution design and development and product/service commercialization for all Americas offerings including the areas of electronic locks, mechanical locks, software applications, mobile apps, doors, door accessories, electronic accessories, readers & credentials, closers, and exit devices. The VP, Americas Engineering will be the driving force for engineering excellence to achieve the long-term business objectives and business growth aspirations for the Americas. The VP will be expected to elevate functional expertise and engineering execution by building and developing our engineering talent and leadership capabilities as well as leading the digital transformation of the Americas engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities include:
Working closely with the Vice President of Global Engineering and Technology and the Americas Senior Leadership Team, this leader will create and gain coalescence behind a robust and actionable product strategy and roadmap.
Provide engineering and technology thought leadership as part of the Americas leadership team; actively engage in the business and ensure commitments are delivered.
Provide leadership to ensure continuous improvement in the availability and competence of engineering personnel throughout the corporation. Work toward a best-in-class technology and engineering capability through improved succession planning, organizational assessment, the identification of key skill gaps, and overall talent acquisition and talent development strategies that link with business goals. Build a team that embodies the Allegion values and drive high levels of employee engagement.
Working with other engineering leaders and the Innovation & Advanced Development team, create a platform for research & development for new products and technology.
Identify and foster key alliances with academic institutions, outside labs, partner companies and suppliers in order to enhance the advanced technology thinking and capabilities of the business. Evolve the business to a more “open innovation” mindset and an outside-in capability to seize compelling ideas and opportunities from anywhere and everywhere.
Provide a linkage between the engineering organization and Allegion’s strategy/business development and product management functions, creating a coordinated network of technology and engineering capabilities for competitive advantage. Work to strengthen the linkage between engineering design centers, the engineering organization at large, product management and marketing.
Promote Allegion global engineering processes that result in value creation in the form of increased speed to market, reduced costs, improved technologies, and innovative products. Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering.
Work closely with the SVP of Global Integrated Supply Chain for Allegion and the regional manufacturing teams to ensure products are designed for manufacturability using leading tools and processes such as Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Design for Reliability (DFR).
Continue to integrate and align the company’s footprint of global design centers with the needs of the Americas product roadmaps, with particular focus on achieving enhanced design/development capabilities in emerging markets. This includes continued partnership with the India Design Center located in Bangalore and the Americas engineering team in Mexico.
Participate actively on enterprise technology and innovation initiatives, including M&A activities
Engineering leadership experience from a company known for innovation and engineering excellence. Multi-industry experience preferred.
15+ years’ experience in global companies in advanced technology, engineering and product management functions. Experience working with and engaging teams that are geographically distributed.
Business and financial acumen sufficient to develop and manage budgets, forecasts and investments for the engineering function; ability to comprehend broader business strategies and challenges.
Excellent personal leadership, change management and ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally—can conduct a dialogue that is intellectually honest, brings out diversity of ideas and creates the appropriate integration/connectivity.
Demonstration of behaviors critical to success within the company including the ability to break boundaries; champion change and foster innovation & continuous improvement; coach and inspire the team as well as the broader organization.
Developer of talent and capabilities; great people leader. Can select, develop, and lead engineers with deep expertise as well as people with breadth.
Excellent ability to represent Allegion externally and build alliances.
4-year technical degree from an accredited academic institution; advanced technical degree and/or MBA preferred.
Ability to lead across diverse product technology sets and engineering competencies.
Establishing strategy and vision for the engineering function and managing execution.
Experience with user-based design processes; comfortable working in an agile environment.
Ability to work in a highly matrixed organization.
