Design Engineer

Individual will work independently or as part of a project team. Responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer will be performing/developing design, ensuring technical analysis of moderate scope and complexities, evaluating, analyzing, and developing concepts for systems, components, and assemblies to achieve new product requirements and current product improvements. Individual will need to ensure the correct processes, tooling and equipment are available to manufacture related parts in-house or at a specified supplier in a safe, quality and cost effective manner.

  • May possess and demonstrate advanced knowledge in a specialized field and broad knowledge of several related disciplines within a function.

  • May provide day-to-day direction and oversight for other employees. Has a solid knowledge of product category, understanding larger system aspects.

  • Demonstrated understanding of cross functional processes.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in work practices, standards, processes.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentations skills.

  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and work within a team environment.

  • Ability to relate to others, demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility, active participation in decision making process.

  • Ability to solve problems and lead others in resolving problems.

  • Contribute to multiple projects, involving single components or subsystems.

  • Provide technical leadership on cross-functional teams.

  • First point of contact within engineering with external customer. Lead customer presentations.

  • Guidance provided by manager. Some projects assigned by manager, some sought out by employee.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills. Proactive in generating reports and preparing seminars.

  • Can quickly assess a problem and identify the key technical issues. Bases decisions on fundamental engineering principles and has a firm understanding of how the principles apply to the problem. Has an understanding of the assumptions involved and accounts for the added risks.

  • Demonstrated experience executing mechanical subsystem design under limited supervision in support of larger projects.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills. Proven experience developing 3D models.

  • Proficiency with engineering tools including FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis & DFM/DFA.
